# rate_limited

Too many requests.

## What it means

The app went over a rate limit, so this request was not run. `Retry-After` says how many seconds to wait.

## Why it happens

- More than 60 writes or 600 reads in a minute across all of the app's keys.
- More than one `POST /v1/domains/{id}/verify` per 15 seconds for the same domain.
- A loop polling a domain instead of listening for webhooks.

## What to do

1. Wait `Retry-After` seconds and retry the same request.
2. Watch `X-RateLimit-Remaining` and slow down before you reach zero.
3. Replace polling with [webhooks](/docs/webhooks). See [Limits and pricing](/docs/limits-and-pricing) for every limit.

- [Open the dashboard](/app/domains)
- [All limits](/docs/limits-and-pricing)
