Connect page
A hosted page per domain that walks your customer through adding the record, in plain words, under your app's name.
What it is
Every domain comes with a connect_url. Send it to your customer, link it from your settings screen, or open it in a new tab after they type their hostname. It needs no login: the link itself is the credential, it is unguessable, and it stops working when the domain is deleted or expires.
{
"id": "dom_8f3a",
"hostname": "careers.acme.com",
"status": "pending_dns",
"connect_url": "https://connect.apexly.dev/c/8f3aK2…"
}What your customer sees
- Detected: "Connect careers.acme.com" and the DNS provider we found from the domain's nameservers ("Your domain is managed at GoDaddy").
- Manual: the one record to add (type, name, value, each with Copy) and three steps written for their provider.
- Checking: "Looking for the record", with when we last checked. They can leave their email address and we write once when the domain is live.
- Live: "careers.acme.com is live." with a link to open it.
- Error: if the record points somewhere else, the expected and found values side by side, "Check again", and "Get help", which opens an email to support with the hostname filled in.
The page checks the status every 5 seconds while it is open and follows the same states as the API, so it never disagrees with your dashboard.
Your brand
The page carries your app's name, not ours. On Free the footer adds "Powered by Apexly"; paid plans and the 14-day trial drop it. On Growth and above, a white-label host also replaces the CNAME value your customers see.
When to use your own UI instead
Everything the page shows is in the domain object: dns.cname (or dns.apex for an apex), status, status_reason and status_detail.expected / status_detail.found. Render those in your product if you would rather keep customers there, and listen for webhooks instead of polling.
